Did you know that crystals have been used for healing since 4000 BCE! According to comiccuts.com Sumerians in Mesopotamia would use softer crystals like gypsum and hematite to create seals. These seals would have carved pictures of important events in life like birth, marriage, and religious ceremonies. Ancient Egyptians would associate certain crystals with gods and deities. For example, Lapis Lazuli was associated with Isis, the goddess of the sky. Also, Egyptians were buried with quartz crystals placed on their forehead. This was meant to ensure safe travel in the afterlife. Ancient Greeks believed that clear crystals like quartz were eternal ice sent down from the heavens. The word “crystal” is derived from the Greek word krustallos which means “ice.” Also, amethyst got their name from a Greek myth involving the goddess Diana and Dionysus, the god of wine. Amethyst was used to maintain sobriety and is still actually used this way today! During the middle ages crystals were actually more researched scientifically. For example, their reaction to fire. Although there was a more scientific motivation, healing crystals can still be seen throughout the Bible. Lastly, in the modern era crystal therapy has emerged as a way to heal physical, mental, and spiritual ailments. The use of healing crystals goes on today still in many different cultures and religious beliefs!
